This project explores the emotional weight of long-term co-living in a 13 m² room shared by two people in a community building in Berlin. I first lived there with my older brother, and now I share the space with my mother. Both of these co-living experiences have shaped me. Although this experience had some positive effects—for example, over time I’ve become more tolerant of others—I’ve also deeply missed having a space of my own. In this series, I tried to capture the moment when co-living felt emotionally suffocating.
Here is a poem I wrote during that time:
I gnawed through the fifth ceiling long ago,
searching for sweetness in the honeycombs.
I drew a current between them —
to sense the flutter of moths.
