We live in a country where we face anxiety, loss, and a constant sense of instability every day. In this reality, our pets become that safe place we can always return to.

The photographs capture a personal story of care, trust, and sincere emotions between an owner and their pet. It is a reminder that even in times when there is so much negativity around us, there is always a space where true love exists.

Safe Place is about the feeling of home and support that our four-legged friends give us.

1) Yaroslav and the grass snake:
From childhood, Yaroslav had a fondness for snakes because his older brother kept several of them. As a teenager, Yarik wanted a snake of his own. He had experience with different species, even an anaconda. The last snake Yaroslav owned was this grass snake (the owner says they rarely gave names to snakes and usually referred to them by species). Yaroslav is now a military instructor, and his mother helps take care of the animal, although snakes are quite independent and eat once every two weeks.

2) Diana and the guinea pig Alisa:
Diana has been living for a long time with her young husband, who is allergic to pets, which made it difficult to have any animals, but life had other plans. Diana says this wedding gift was a surprise for everyone. Alisa still lives with them, and Diana does not part with her, but in the autumn she will have to give the animal to her younger sister so that it does not become a major irritant, even though Diana herself really does not want to do this.

3) Larysa and the dogs Nika and Margo:
Larysa is my mother’s colleague. They work as pharmacists.
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, she was unable to leave her hometown of Orikhiv because there was nowhere to take the dogs, and she категорically refused to leave the frontline area without them. My mother spoke with the management, and Larysa lived for several months in a pharmacy together with her dogs, and only later was she able to find housing where animals were allowed.

4) Vadym and the rat Tulaska:
Vadym runs a photo studio in the city centre, and it is literally his home. Not long ago, he decided to get two rats — Tulaska and Shakhti — to make the space feel more lively and cosy. Unfortunately, Shakhti was not in the mood to be a model that day, so Tulaska worked for two
